Swimmer Truus Klapwijk

Swimmer Truus Klapwijk

This photo was taken in the Pieter van den Hoogenband swimming stadium. I was there during the Worldcup matches. On the wall of the mall hang from all kinds of time periods, photo collages of famous Dutch swimmers. My eye fell on the collage below. Truus Klapwijk was an aunt of my father.

Truus Klapwijk

On the large photo on the right Truus Klapwijk is the only one who has ever practiced all the existing swimbound disciplines at Olympic level. In 1920 she takes part in the women's water polo demonstration competition, in 1924 she swims the 400m freestyle and the relay and in 1928 she finishes sixth in the clean jump.
